PRESS RELEASE #2
A tripartite MoU is between GCE – Jemena – and SOLVAY.
GCE is pleased to announce a second ‘tripartite’ Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) of national significance.
This tripartite MoU is between GCE – Jemena – and SOLVAY.
SOLVAY is Australia’s sole producer of hydrogen peroxide. Hydrogen peroxide is a ubiquitous chemical used widely throughout the Australian society and economy. Of significance to Australia, hydrogen peroxide is an essential element in gold mining.
SOLVAY uses methane sourced from the gas network as both a feedstock (the methane molecule) and as an energy source, and the purpose of the MoU is to fully decarbonise this hydrogen peroxide production process.
GCE’s renewable methane will be injected into Jemena’s gas distribution network equal to the amount of natural gas SOLVAY’s Sydney based plant consumes.
This benchmark initiative will showcase the very best of what a decarbonised gas distribution network has to offer:
The provision of renewable molecules for the production of biochemicals and bioproducts.
The provision of renewable energy.
Enabling the production of green hydrogen through the steam reforming of renewable methane.
Gas grid to electricity grid sector coupling through embedded Combined Heat and Power (CHP) systems co-delivering the following:
The concurrent decarbonisation of electricity and thermal process energies.
Substantially increased energy efficiencies.
Lower energy costs for manufacturers and processors.
Exportable renewable electricity through EXISTING electricity grid connections
These two benchmark MoU’s provide GCE with a solid long-term and medium-term platform enabling the development of a pipeline of benchmark agricultural and agri-industrial aligned circular economy projects of global significance.
